RE/MAX's Spring Market Trends Report finds that "Slowly recovering oil prices, low interest rates, and US approval of the Keystone XL pipeline project have renewed buyer optimism in Alberta."

In Calgary, "optimistic move-up buyers are driving demand for detached, single-family homes" and the condo market remains flat due to "considerable inventory".

CRA Canadian Tax TimeStarting with the 2016 tax year (generally due April 2017), Canadians must now report sales of primary residences to the Canadian Revenue Agency when filing their taxes. While reporting the sale of a primary residence is now required, profit made is still likely exempt from being taxed. Penalties for not reporting the sale can be as high as $8,000.

Wow!

In Texas, this family bought an Aqua Dam for $8,300 and saved their property from massive flooding - which certainly would have destroyed his house otherwise.

Improving inventories help ease price growth pressure

Calgary’s residential resale housing market posted relatively strong November activity reaching 1,782 units, a three per cent increase over the previous year, and nearly 13 per cent above long term averages.

“Relative to other major centres, economic growth in Calgary remains one of the strongest in the country,” said CREB® chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie. “Employment opportunities and relatively higher wages have encouraged people to move here, supporting the demand growth in our housing sector.”

Starting September 1, 2014 Calgary Police will begin enforcement of new changes to the City's 1150 playground and 180 school zones.

While in effect, speed limits will be reduced to 30km/h. Playground zone times are now 7:30am to 9pm, every day, all year. School zones will be in effect from 7:30am to 9pm, during school days only.
