It seems like every week the news tells us about the latest "biggest hack ever" and how our personal information has been compromised. After hearing that Sony lost the informaton for 100 million Playstation Network customers - mine included - I decided to cancel my American Express and get a copy of my credit bureau to that make sure all is ok.

Did you know that there is no need to purchase TransUnion's $14.95 "credit profile"? Equifax will sell you your "credit score" for $23.95 or "credit report" for $15.50 but if you don't need it immediately, there is really no need to pay.

TransUnion and Equifax are mandated to offer a free "customer disclosure" which is a complete account of all information on your credit report. It is different than the "business version" which would be given when applying for credit and shows account management inquiries, non-credit related inquiries, and your personal inquiries to obtain a copy of your credit information. It does not show credit scores and does not interpret your results.

To order a copy of your consumer disclosure credit report to be mailed to you from TransUnion, you can visit their site or call 1-800-663-9980.

To have a copy of your consumer disclosure credit report maile to you from Equifax, visit their site or call 1-800-465-7166.
